How To Grow New Hair Naturally?

Hair loss affects millions of Americans. It can be that you are entering middle age when graying or thinning hair signals the start of old age. But if you are one of the many whose male pattern baldness is caused by hereditary factors that cause more hair to fall out than is replaced at an early age, then it makes sense to start doing something about it this early rather than during its later stages when there’s hardly any hair to see.

There’s still a lot that can be done to fortify weakening hair follicles. Once the follicle is dead, there’s not much you can do to restore it.

A person’s head holds around 100,000 hair follicles. Hair loss is natural for as long as hair growth replaces what falls out. This happens when the hair follicles remain healthy even if the hair strand falls off due to chemical and physical mishandling.

But once the follicles are damaged, that’s it. No new follicles can be regenerated.  A thinning hair is often caused by follicles not keeping up to replacing lost hair. Either the follicles are not getting the right nutrients or are slowly being weakened or damaged by chemicals or mishandling. It becomes clear that stimulating new hair growth means correcting that factors that contribute to hair loss.

Here are some things to consider to stimulate and promote hair growth. Let’s start with grooming.

Grooming

Changing our grooming habits can help to correct some conditions that lead to hair loss.

Frequent shampooing using strong highly astringent shampoos can dry your scalp and cause hair to become brittle and fall off.

Hair styles that tend to abuse hair strands like sporting dreadlocks that pull on the stands can be damaging to your hair. Nothing beats sporting a short hair style in its natural state.

It helps a lot to be gentle with your hair. Mishandling it with brushes and combs that hurt your hair scalp should be avoided.

Vitamins

Vitamins are known to assist in blocking the production of Dihydrotestosterone or DHT in the body, a chemical known to block protein nutrients hair follicles need for hair growth. Vitamins have been known to promote hair growth by replenishing damaged hair roots in both sexes.

Vitamin A contains antioxidant compounds and a daily dose of 5000 IU is recommended to promote hair growth.  It is found in green leafy vegetables like broccoli, cabbage and spinach, milk and milk products and fish oils.

Vitamin B – rich foods, particularly B3 or Niacin, promotes blood circulation that carries the needed nutrients to the scalp. The recommended dose is 15 mg daily and they can be found in yeast and wheat products as well as fish and meats.

Non Prescriptive Hair Growth Medication

There are non-prescriptive hair growth medication creams and lotions that are topically applied on thinning hair to promote growth. Check out Minoxidil, a compound that’s among the first FDA-approved hair treatment. It was first used to combat high blood pressure but was observed to have side effect – hair growth in some parts of the body. It’s now the active ingredient of Provillus or the commercial Rogaine and has a 33% effect of re-gaining hair in men at the early stages of hair loss.
