Nioxin® Review

Nioxin by Nioxin Research Laboratories

Nioxin by Nioxin Research Laboratories, Inc. is a hair loss treatment system designed to gently cleanse the hair and stop alopecia or hair loss. The Nioxin website features a wide variety of products and mini-systems for different users.

Nevertheless, each Nioxin package is composed of at least 3 basic systems:

Nioxin Cleanser

Nioxin Scalp Therapy

Nioxin Scalp Treatment.

There are 8 different systems from the Nioxin brand, each designed for a particular hair type. Nioxin can even be purchased from participating salons. Simply use the product locator that can be found at their official website. A professional consultation is recommended so you can use the best package most suited to your hair type.

How It Work?

Nioxin makes use of a 3-part system that involves cleansing, scalp therapy and scalp treatment.

All Nioxin have been especially formulated to nourish and protect the hair from biological and chemical damage. The cleansers used by the system are for normal hair and other hair types; different formulations bring different maximal results.

For example, the one for normal to thin hair includes the Transactive Delivery System™, a time-based nutrient release system for the scalp and hair. The cleanser for thinning hair, on the other hand, contains the Scalp Access Delivery System™, which delivers nutrients through a chaperone molecular system. The per hydrogen or ph balance of the products lie  between 5.0 to 7.5; just enough alkalinity and acidity for daily use.

Unfortunately, Nioxin products are not vegan. If you’re interested in thermal protection, you might want to try 2 Nioxin products, namely, Bliss and Glossing Color Shield. All Nioxin products are soluble in water.

User Reviews

Nioxin has a high success rate. 9 out of 10 users report a visible thickening of their hair and also an improvement of the general appearance of their hair. Since the system is a cleansing one, we can also be assured that the people who experience hair thickening also experience less sebum in their hair and less environmental debris.

This was also mentioned in the product literature from the Nioxin website; more than just a cleanser, the formulas used in all Nioxin products were designed specifically to work with the biological environment of the hair and the scalp. The aim is to improve the overall environment of the scalp and hair.

Possible Side Effects

Nioxin does not produce any known adverse side effects, according to the product website.

There are no side effects associated with using or discontinuing the use of all or some of the Nioxin products featured in the company website. If you discontinue using Nioxin, you would simply be not receiving the benefits from the products.

The company website recommends the use of 2 products with topical minoxidil. These 2 products are Nioxin Cleanser and Nioxin Scalp Therapy. You can also use Nioxin Hair Masques and other styling products of the same brand. These products were probably formulated to work synergistically with each other.

However, you must not use Scalp Treatment and Follicle Booster if you’re using topical minoxidil. Are you having trouble with hair loss during the post-pregnancy period? There’s good news here; you can use Nioxin for your post-natal problems with your hair, unlike other products that are not recommended for use for hair thinning due to pregnancy.
